 As I roam the streets this week everything appears to blend into one. This may be because I am not feeling too brilliant (damn mystery illness), or it may be because everything is all a sickening shade of pink/red. That’s right, St Valentine’s Day has once again reared its ugly head. I may just be bitter because I have never had a date or received a card on this oh so special day (seriously, if anyone even wants to send me even a joke card I would appreciate it!), but I cannot be the only one who hates Feb 14th with a fiery burning passion. The way I see it you just cannot win. If you are in a relationship, yes you get presents and affection, but then you also have to make the effort to buy said gifts and plan all manner of cheesy romantic crap to please your other half. If you are single then it seems like everyone else is loved up but you. Any holiday that makes lonely people feel even worse is just plain cruel! I’m not even sure that Valentine’s Day is a real holiday – I really object to people partaking in events made up by Hallmark. In fact when I quizzed my male housemates upon the subject of Valentine’s the response was unanimous: “Valentine’s Day rocks because you are guaranteed to get laid” – that’s right girls, feel valued. If anyone needs me I shall be at the bottom of an ice cream tub!  |
