Every week I’ll be giving you a review of a song. Now this could be a song in the chart I like (or one I hate) or something a bit different I’ve found on this ‘ere interweb. I’ll also be teaming up with my alter ego (get your head round that one) to bring you a bootleg. That’s songs mixed together rather than the live recording kind. |

Since there are no new singles worth talking about, I thought this week I’d share with you my favourite ever cover version. Lostprophets – Cry Me A River If I was a rock band and I wanted to be taken seriously by my peers, covering a Justin Timberlake song would probably be the last thing on my mind. Scratch that. Covering the slowest, most ballad-like of Justin’s singles would be the last thing on my mind. But the Lostprophets did exactly that. And the result is bloody amazing. I have to admit right now that I quite like the singles Mr Timberlake has released. (But then, I like a whole range of music, and can appreciate a good song when I hear it.) Cry Me A River was one of his better efforts, mixing strings, an R’n’b flavour, and that annoyingly high voice to great effect. This version starts out pretty much the same, just with a different singer. It even sounds like they’ve used a Justin sample in there. But then the chorus kicks in. Guitars? Check. Drums? Check. Rock version of Cry Me A River you say? Indeedy. The ending is just pure class, and one of those ones you don’t want to finish. There have been cover versions that change the song completely, but for me, this is my favourite ‘re-imagining’. 5/5 If you want to judge for yourself, you can download it here: Lostprophets - Cry Me A River |
