Every week I’ll be giving you a review of a song. Now this could be a song in the chart I like (or one I hate) or something a bit different I’ve found on this ‘ere interweb.

I’ll also be teaming up with my alter ego (get your head round that one) to bring you a bootleg. That’s songs mixed together rather than the live recording kind.

Take Me Mama Out

Scissor Sisters - Take Me Out

By now I think you can tell how much I like odd cover versions. I’m not talking about the latest boyband covering yet another ballad, but tracks like this. A band/singer taking a song and putting their own slant on it.

This track starts out very chilled out, a complete contrast to the original Franz Ferdinand number. It shows off the vocal quality of lead singer Jake Shears. It then, like the original, changes the instrumental slightly, going onto a more jaunty tack.

And that is really why I like the track. It transforms a rock song into a Scissor Sisters song. That is the whole point of a cover version. Not to sing exactly the same thing in exactly the same way, but to do something different.

It’s just a shame most of these type of covers end up as B-sides, rather than the actual single.

But anyway, this is great. Download it.
