Hotel Babylon (BBC1 – Thursdays 9pm) OK. I really shouldn’t like this. I mean, really REALLY shouldn’t like this. This is in the Footballer’s Wives and Bad Girls league of what I shouldn’t like. But, Godammit, I think I do… I’m not sure if this is supposed to be a comedy drama, or a drama with funny bits. But it’s definitely quirky. And that’s probably the root of why I like it. It stars Tamzin Outhwaite (another reason why I shouldn’t like it) as the hotel manager and Max Beesley as the assistant. They both fit the parts superbly. Damn them. The hotel aims to please by giving their guests whatever they want. Alcohol, chocolate, hookers… And these leads to the cheesiest line possible for the advert: “The hotel where there are no reservations.” *Bangs head on keyboard* So, I’ve not really given you a reason why I like this, and to be honest, I can’t think why myself. It is well filmed, but then almost every new drama is these days. The acting is top notch, but again, ex-soap actress *shudders*. I think the reason is that it’s quirky and weird, something there’s not much of in the safe realms of BBC1 and ITV1. It’s nice to have a change for once. I feel dirty now. |

I’m pretty sure that there has only been one topic of conversation amongst the students of Britain this week: The Neighbours plane crash!! That’s right, some unknown cake taker planted a bomb on the light aircraft carrying half of Ramsay Street. It was a tense wait with Karl, Harold, Janelle, Lynn and Max, as reports of survivors came in slowly (I knew who dies already, but hey, it was still awesome). Some acting was required here and the whole cast did themselves proud; I even shed a tear as Toady, Stu and Ned toasted the life of Connor. It has been way too difficult to choose legends and tossers this week and part of me thinks it would be inappropriate! So instead, here are some things that have made my week spiggin’ awesome: The special effects One word – genius! Joe Mangel Who knew he was capable of such compassion? Love this man. Connor’s side parted hair Smooooooth!! Serena HA HA HA HA HA!! (One character I will not miss.) Dylan’s and Connor’s great escape Looking forward to some great moments from the new Bonnie and Clyde! And finally, the best Neighbours quote EVER: “Susan is worth a thousand Izzy’s!!!!” You are the best Karl. |
