Snakes on a Plane

by Jenni

Overall rating: 95%

The world is divided into two halves: the first is those who, through the wonder of the internet, have been anticipating Samuel L Jackson's viper ass-kicking B movie with all the energy of a small child at Christmas. The second are those who are oblivious to all the fan-boy hype and went 'WTF???? Is that actually serious?' upon seeing the trailer. (That was me, and I still don't believe it's a real film - Neale)

I am not ashamed to say I fall firmly in the first category. Snakes on a Plane is a landmark victory for the film geek. Never before have creators listened to the opinions expressed through blogs and forums, and actually altered the film to pander to the people.

With the marketing taking care of itself, all the big wigs had to worry about was if Snakes delivered or not.

It gives me great pleasure to say that Snakes on a Plane does exactly what it says on the tin. Criminal puts poisonous snakes on a plane to try and bring it down in order to destroy a witness for the prosecution, all havoc breaks loose, Sam Jackson has to save the day whilst being effortlessly cool!

All the classic B movie elements are there. A mixed bag of passengers (including a rapper, Paris Hilton wannabe, cute kids, annoying English guy!), criminal with a motive, a Joe nobody in the wrong place at the wrong time, a cool cop and a well meaning crew - all battling the ever more ridiculous odds.

The script is cheesy, the acting is suspect, the romance elements are all entirely predictable. But God damn it is entertaining! The gore, the effects and the fast-paced no-nonsense attitude makes this film so engaging. I don't think I have the words to review it any further!

In Summary:

For all the wrong reasons, it's the best film of the summer!
