Lily Allen - Oh My God by Neale I have a small obsession with Lily Allen at the moment. Let me tell you how it happened... One day I was in my local HMV browsing around when I heard a song playing in the background. I was pretty sure it was Lily Allen, even though I'd never heard one of her tracks before, but it was when there was a massive buzz going around about her. Not knowing the name of the track, I pressed 'record' on my mobile phone video camera (oh yes, I'm that clever). Then when I got home I typed the lyrics into Google and found out what it was. This is not that song. That song was 'Not Big' - and is by far the best track on her album. And considering I'd give the album a 5/5 if I reviewed it, that's a big compliment. Since I like to give something to my readers (*cough*), I've chosen her less-illegal-to-put-on-a-website cover of the Kaiser Chiefs' Oh My God. It's certainly very different to the original, giving the track a much more urban feel. You can certainly tell it's a Lily Allen song by her distinctive vocals, and even the instrumental sounds like one of her other tracks. She's not everyone's cup of tea, but I think she's ace. Justin Timberlake - Like I Love You (Instrumental) vs Britney Spears - I'm A Slave 4 U (Acapella) One of the very first proper tracks I did way back in 2003 - so a perfect way to begin the album. The concept for the track was originally done by a bootlegger called Sleazyboy. It came at the height of the Britney/Justin split, so to have them in the same song was irony personified. A version of the track was played on the 'Smash Hits Chart' in 2004 - although they did a very good job in messing up the ending. What's been rubbed: There have been a couple of versions of this down the years. On this version, the elements have been timed properly, so the instrumental doesn't sound 'washed out' like in the original. The acapella has also been moved in places to fit better.
